Ferragù
The Ferragù winery announces itself with a building of unmistakable yellow-ochre color, whose facade is enriched by parallel stripes of orange. We are in Sorcè di Sopra, more precisely in the locality of Cellore, within the eastern portion of the Veronese area. The winery has a recent foundation, having been established in 1997, but despite not having a centuries-old history, it has managed, in just a few years, to establish itself as one of the reference realities for the production of great Venetian classics, from Amarone to Recioto. At the helm of Ferragù is Carlo, who, along with his brothers Ornello and Angelo, dedicates himself with sacrifice and passion to the production of prestigious labels. Since the beginning of the activity, the products signed Ferragù have managed to impose themselves in international markets, reaching important showcases like the London ones of Harrods department store, a temple of luxury where only the best products can fit in. Harvest and work in the winery follow a rhythmic succession within Ferragù, a productive reality where every bottle tells a story made of grape varieties, territories, and human knowledge.
The vineyards of the Ferragù winery develop within the Val d’Illasi, a territory included in the Veronese area where the landscapes alternate between plains, hills, and mountains. The climate is temperate, and the rains concentrate almost entirely in the period between autumn and spring. Among the rows, which extend for about 8 hectares, the typical varieties of the territory are cultivated, namely Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Oseleta. In the vineyard, great attention is paid to the work on shoots and buds, yields are low, to ensure a concentration of aromas and flavors in every bunch. Great importance is also given to the drying of the grapes, a fundamental step for the production of Amarone, and to the aging, for which French oak barrels are used.
Today the wines of the Ferragù winery take the form of Amarone, Valpolicella Classico Superiore, and Recioto. Labels that enjoy great success abroad, from Asia to the U.S.A., passing through Europe and Italy. A small production, which only the luckiest have the chance to taste: if you don’t know where to start, begin with Amarone, where, sip by sip, you will discover a bottle of the highest quality.
