Ferrando
The Ferrando Winery is a historic Piedmontese reality, which for five generations has cultivated vineyards and produced wines in the lands of Canavese. The original core of the company dates back to 1890, when Giuseppe Ferrando began his activity in Ivrea, creating a cellar in the spaces of the former convent of San Bernardino. Initially, the project mainly aimed to market the wines of Canavese in Valle d’Aosta. The real turning point would come in 1957. Fascinated by the territory of Carema, the founder's grandson began the production of this historic mountain Nebbiolo, which over the following decades has become the most important wine of the winery and a true excellence of absolute level in the field of great Piedmontese reds.
The Canavese region is located in the province of Turin and extends between the Po River and the border with Valle d’Aosta. From a geological point of view, its origins date back to the presence of a large alpine glacier, which, progressively retreating, left a territory characterized by a wide area of morainic hills. The soils are composed of gravel, pebbles, and sands, making them very draining and suitable for quality viticulture. In this area, the history of viticulture began with Roman colonization and has continued uninterrupted to the present day.
