Filippo Brancati
The Filippo Brancati Winery is a family-run business that produces wines in Palizzi, in the province of Reggio Calabria, at the southernmost point of the entire Italian peninsula. It is a small artisanal production dedicated to the most discerning enthusiasts, always in search of the authentic flavors of the territory. The estate was born out of love for the land of Filippo Brancati, who, after living for a long time in Veneto engaged in entrepreneurial activities, decided to return to his Calabria to fulfill the dream of producing wine. Thus, a project aimed at enhancing the territory was born, carried out with great passion and with the goal of restoring splendor to an area always suited for vine cultivation.
The origins of Calabrian viticulture date back to ancient times. The domestication of the vine was already known to local populations when, during the 8th century BC, the first Greek colonization began, bringing new skills, more advanced farming methods, and contributing significantly to the development of the vineyard.determining for the development of the vineyard. Filippo Brancati wanted to refer to ancient traditions, combining history and customs of the territory, with a modern and accurate approach in the field of winemaking. The results were immediately very encouraging and Filippo thus began a collaboration with the Cooperativa Terre Grecaniche for wine production. The management of the vineyard has always been inspired by respect for the territory and in 2016, the winery obtained organic certification as a seal of a constant commitment to preserving the unspoiled beauty of these lands.
The estate extends over an area of only three hectares, cultivated with great care and attention. The vineyards are located in the municipality of Palizzi, at the southern tip of the Ionian coast of Calabria and are beautifully overlooking the sea. They are cultivated at an altitude between 200 and 250 meters above sea level, with exposure facing east and northeast. The climate is warm and dry, typically Mediterranean, mitigated only by the presence of sea breezes, which help temper the excessive heat and ensure constant ventilation, which keeps the grapes always healthy. Among the rows, primarily Nerello and Chardonnay are cultivated, which have adapted very well to the particular local climatic conditions. The wines are made simply, with the sole aim of highlighting the quality of the grapes and the unique character of a historic terroir.
