Fonzone

In Paternopoli, in the heart of green Irpinia, the campanian winery Fonzone rises, a family-run wine business founded in 2005 by Lorenzo Fonzone Caccese with the intention of contributing to the enhancement of the area by embracing the most typical denominations of the territory. The modern winery is almost entirely underground, both to minimize the visual impact on the beautiful Irpinian landscape and to favor lower temperatures inside the winemaking and aging rooms. For several years, the Fonzone Caccese family has entrusted technical consulting to Luca d’Attoma, a renowned Italian oenologist with great experience.

The Fonzone estate consists of just over 23 hectares of vineyards located at altitudes reaching up to 650 meters above sea level and positively influenced by the presence of the streams Fredane and Ifalco. The grape varieties cultivated by the estate exclusively include the indigenous Aglianico, Fiano, Greco, and Falanghina, varieties that have written the history of Irpinia. The plants, managed according to sustainable agronomic practices, rest on soils mainly clayey, sandy, and calcareous, with variable composition depending on the reference plot, with the presence of tuff in the Greco area. The oenological approach aims to combine tradition and innovation and, according to this productive vision, after manual harvesting and careful selection, the bunches are vinified in stainless steel tanks, terracotta amphorae, or cement tanks at controlled temperature. Most of the whites age in the same wine containers while the reds predominantly mature in French oak barriques inside the large barrel room.

The wines of the campanian winery Fonzone embrace all the Irpinian denominations, namely Fiano di Avellino, Greco di Tufo, Taurasi, and Irpinia. In particular, the whites fully express the mineral character of the territory, whether it is the tuff veins of Greco di Tufo or the refined mineral imprint of Fiano di Avellino. The reds also impress with their commendable elegance and personality, as well as their modern style while being respectful of tradition.
