Madonia Giovanna
Giovanna Madonia is an energetic and resolute woman from Romagna's wine scene, who has become a reference point in the Bertinoro area. Since the 1990s, Giovanna has developed a well-recognizable personal style, characterized by expressive originality and a solid, compact personality, which has met with great success in the United States, also thanks to the promotional work carried out by her daughters.
Giovanna's vineyards extend over 14 hectares along the slopes of the Montemaggio hill, in Bertinoro, in the hilly heart of Romagna, on limestone soils characterized by the presence of 'spungone', a rocky element made up of calcareous sandstone and fossilized marine shells. Here, at an altitude of 250 to 300 meters above sea level, Albana and Sangiovese are cultivated, grown at high density with low yields per hectare, using traditional bush-trained systems surrounded by woods and olive trees. The cooler microclimate compared to nearby areas, combined with the influence of sea breezes, allows the creation of characteristic, elegant, and structured Romagna wines.
The wines of Giovanna Madonia require time to reach their perfect point of maturation, which is why she prolongs the aging in bottle for very long periods, prioritizing the quality of the products over commercial logic. Structured, elegant, and complex, these wines have a great aging potential and reflect, with originality and uniqueness of expression, the robust, authentic, and generous character of Romagna
