Pettinella Giuliano

A dream and a passion for wine are the premises that drove the lawyer from Marche, Giuliano Pettinella, to recover a small estate that had belonged to his family for decades and located within the municipality of Silvi Marina, in the Abruzzo province of Teramo. Giuliano began his activity with his wife Francesca only in 2010, but thanks to the exquisite craftsmanship and the straightforwardness of his rosé 'Tauma', it took little time for him to become known and appreciated by enthusiasts and critics, especially those fascinated by the movement of artisanal wines.

Giuliano Pettinella cultivates just over one hectare of vineyard area divided into two plots, one located on the Adriatic coast near the Silvi Marina winery and rooted in clay-sandy soils, the other in Tocco da Casauria, planted in bush vines at the foot of the Apennines on clay-limestone soils. Between sea and mountains, therefore, in a context of rare viticultural vocation with part of the plants benefiting from the cool climate of the Apennines and the other part of the constant presence of Adriatic breezes.constant presence of Adriatic breezes. These represent the environments in which Pettinella cultivates Montepulciano, the most representative variety of Abruzzo wine and the only one worked by this winemaker through simple and essential vinifications. For the management of fermentations, the so-called technique of pied de cuve is used, in order to reduce the risks and unpredictability of the process while preserving the microbiological territoriality. The resulting maturation periods take place in exhausted wooden barrels and no clarification or filtration process is applied during the transformation.
