Glen Breton is one of the rare producers of Canadian Single Malt. Located in Nova Scotia region, in Glenville, the distillery was founded in 1990 by Bruce Jardine, with the intention of producing Scottish-style Single Malt. The distillery, which has an annual production of 250,000 liters, is also a beautiful tourist attraction hosting a B & B. Two labels distinguish its products: Glen Breton Rare, flagship product of the distillery, aged in American oak barrels, and Glen Breton Rare Ice, aged in barrels of "Jost Vineyard's Ortega Ice Wine".

Glen Breton has become a famous name even before selling a single bottle of spirit because of the word "Glen", which generally refers to the labels of famous Scottish whiskies. The Scotch Whisky Association sued the distillery for using that term, although the word "Scotch" did not appear anywhere, and the Canadian origin of the distillate was visible. After several rulings and appeals, Glen Breton overcame the controversy in 2009, devoting in 2010 a 15 years whisky called "Battle of the Glen" in honor of the legal battle.

The water used for its Single Malt down from the granite rocks of the Mabou Highlands, among the roots of apple and maple trees in the area. The distillates, produced by its two copper stills, then take the scents of the surrounding vegetation in the warehouse where they age, that is scents of apples, maples, but also cedar and pine trees. Its Glen Breton Rare 10 years is quoted among the "101 whiskies to try before you die" in the same name book by Ian Buxton. Truly a Nova Scotia whisky.
