Glengoyne
Glengoyne is a storied whisky distillery located along the Highland Line, on the border with the Lowlands, about 15 km from Glasgow. It was founded in 1833 by the Edminstone family at the foot of Dumgoyne Hill, in the historic region of the Trossachs. The distillery was initially named Burnfoot Distillery, adopting its current name only from 1906. Today, this distillery is the custodian of a traditional style of the Dumgoyne territory, characterized by the complete absence of peat. The acquisition of this historic reality by the Ian Macleod Distillers group in 2003 allowed the distillery to benefit from significant investments, becoming completely autonomous, from barley processing to bottling.
Glengoyne produces its Single Malts using the slowest stills in all of Scotland. These are 3 large copper stills from which a unique and very smooth distillate flows slowly, drop by drop. The barley is dried in the open air and, given the lack of peat in the area, presents itself, even after malting, without peaty or smoky notes. The respect for the oldest production traditions of this unique region has led the distillery's mashman to state: “Our unpeated malt is true to our past and our taste.” The aging is strictly done in casks that have contained Sherry, according to a tradition that dates back to the second half of the 19th century.
The Single Malt Whiskies from Glengoyne Distillery, now owned by Ian Macleod, preserve the authentic spirit of the Dumgoyne territory, on the Highland Line. This is a uniqueness born from a centuries-old know-how, developed by the distillery for over two centuries and inspired by the long tradition of home and clandestine distilleries that preceded its history. This is an important tradition that has been maintained to this day, from which unique whiskies in the world with an unmistakable style are born.
