Gonella
Gonella is a reality from the Asti area that arises from the passion of the Gonella family. During the second half of the 1940s, father Mario leaves the countryside and the farmhouse where he was born, heading to Rivoli, near Turin, with his wife Margherita. It is here that this newly formed family brings Giulia into the world, assembling the bricks of a new and different life. But it is not always easy to resist the call of the countryside. Very often, in fact, Mario returns to the small farmhouse to help his parents and manage the land and the vineyard. Mario longs to return to his birthplace, and the opportunity presents itself after retirement, reached at a relatively young age, with a new life to begin, a small revolution that years earlier he could not have imagined or had the strength to implement.
The reds and whites of Gonella wines are produced exclusively from indigenous grapes, expressing the best characteristics of Nebbiolo, Barbera, Arneis, and particularly rare gems like Bonarda from Piemonte. The soils are of ancient origin, and the numerous findings of fossilized shells
tells us of a sea that previously covered this area. Furthermore, this winery can count on the never-before-used application of chemical or synthetic substances for vineyard management. The 4.5 hectares of vineyard are treated exclusively with sulfur and copper, using little sulfur dioxide. The adopted philosophy is one that aims to give back to the land all that it gives, without distorting its identity by taking advantage of it solely. The wines of Gonella stand out for being profoundly direct, sincere, and frank, just like their current owner Giulia, who took over the winery after her father, always feeling, deep down, like a "country girl," mentally distant from city life. Just as she supported Mario, she is now supported by her husband Davide, who strongly believes in this project, approaching the rhythm of the land very humbly, without selfishness and solipsism. These are the "field choices" that aim to give us a better future and sincere, territorial, unique labels.
