Goutorbe Henri
The Goutorbe house was founded in 1940, thanks to the entrepreneurial and avant-garde spirit of Henri who, in a short time, acquired many vineyards in the Grand Cru classified municipality of Ay, in the heart of the Vallée de la Marne. Today, the property is in the hands of René and Nicole and has greatly expanded to include 22 hectares of vineyards mainly distributed between Ay, Mareuil-sur-Ay, Bisseuil, and Dizy, managed day by day by the agronomic skills of Etienne, a worthy representative of the third generation of the family. The cultivated grapes are those traditional to the Champagne region, with Pinot Noir in pole position, followed by Chardonnay and finally smaller percentages of Pinot Meunier.
The name Goutorbe has always been associated, in Champagne and in France in general, with a long nursery tradition that dates back to the time of the First World War. The Goutorbe family played a fundamental role in the rebirth of viticulture post-Phylloxera, carefully selecting the best seedlings to graft to create new plantings. Owning vineyards in the Ay area, just a few kilometers from Epernay, in an area of great excellence, is an invaluable fortune. Thanks to the soils rich in minerals that transfer natural salinity to the wine, thanks to the perfect microclimate characterized by marked temperature excursions; a mix of unique ingredients that make Goutorbe Champagnes great.
Henri Goutorbe boasts a range of prestigious and eclectic cuvées, with only one Premier Cru, the Blanc de Blancs, and all Grand Cru with a minimum percentage of Pinot Noir entirely from Ay of 70%. In the cellar, the practices are classic, alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks and long aging on the lees in bottle ranging from 3 to 5 years before disgorgement. Goutorbe is also a founding member of "Le Club Trésors", an association founded in 1971 that brings together 28 artisan vignerons who bottle their best cuvée in the same bottle equal for all, which is named "Spécial Club". Now that we have told you who Goutorbe is, you can only taste his cuvée and become part of this house!
