Guenin

The Maison Guenin is a small reality located in Esseoyes, a village in the Côte de Bar, famous for producing great Champagne and for having inspired the painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, who stayed there for a long time, captivated by the beauty of the landscape. The estate is located in the southernmost part of the Champagne region, the least known and frequented, but which has managed to attract the attention of enthusiasts with a production of excellent quality. The Champagnes of the Côte de Bar not only have nothing to envy to those from the more renowned areas of the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims, but indeed possess a strong personality, making them particularly appreciated by connoisseurs in search of the authentic taste of the terroir.

The Côte de Bar area has a milder and sweeter climate compared to the Épernay and Reims area, but above all presents a different soil composition. Also due to its natural proximity to Burgundy, the soils are not composed of outcrops of gypsum or limestone, as further north, but they are characterized by the presence of limestone or limestone-clay marls. The particular pedoclimatic conditions make the Côte de Bar very suitable for the cultivation of Pinot Noir, which in these lands expresses itself with fresh, powerful, and aromatically rich wines. The Burgundy red has become the flagship grape of this area and marks with its personality most of the cuvées produced in the territory.

The Maison Guenin is a family-owned estate that planted its first vineyards in the 1950s, expanding over the decades to the current 17 hectares. The vines are cultivated on gentle sunny slopes, ideal for achieving excellent ripening and are in the process of conversion to organic farming. Among the rows, the presence of Pinot Noir exceeds 90%, complemented by some parcels of Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc. The style of the Maison includes partial aging of the base wines in wood and the complete malolactic fermentation, to give the wines greater richness and expressive harmony.
