Guy Michel
Guy Michel et Fils is a family-run Maison that produces excellent artisanal Champagnes. With an ancient savoir-faire, it boasts the experience of five generations of winemakers. The domaine is located in a particularly prestigious area, characterized by highly suitable soils and gentle hills with sunny southern exposures, which promote excellent grape ripening, with intense and elegant aromatic profiles. The winery is located in the small village of Pierry, a few kilometers south of Épernay. This is a particularly interesting area due to its geographical location between the Vallée de la Marne and the Côte de Blanc, which allows for successful cultivation of all the main grape varieties of the region.
The domaine covers a total of about twenty hectares, divided into many small plots located in Pierry and the surrounding villages. The vineyards are cultivated with 50% Munier, 30% Chardonnay, and 20% Pinot Noir. The vineyard estate is the true wealth of the Maison, which can rely on grapes that come from microzones with slightly different soils and climates. Each plot is vinified separately to highlight and enhance their specific characteristics. Thanks to this detailed knowledge of the terroir and its expressive nuances, when creating the cuvées, the chef de cave can rely on a wide selection of vins clairs, allowing for the creation of harmonious and balanced blends each year.
In addition to vintage wines, the Maison also boasts a precious reserve of wines from previous years, carefully preserved as true family jewels, which are a fundamental element in creating non-vintage labels. The pressing is done very gently, and only the first fraction of the free-run juice is used for the production of Champagne. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. One of the Maison's characteristics is the use of very long aging times on the lees, to offer mature, evolved Champagnes with remarkable complexity and aromatic persistence.
