I Borboni
I Borboni is a winery of fundamental importance for the enhancement and safeguarding of the millenary tradition of Asprinio di Aversa, cultivated according to the system of the ancient alberata aversana, saved from extinction since the 1980s. The Numeroso family, owners of the winery, has been cultivating vines in Lusciano, in the Aversano area, since the early 1900s. Starting from the 1960s, members of the Numeroso family were among the main suppliers of the Buton company, for the production of brandy and sparkling wines, managing to produce up to 100 tons per year of grapes. All this until Cavalier Nicola Numeroso decided, together with his son Carlo, to recover the traditions of Asprinio, founding an autonomous production reality.
The I Borboni winery is now located in the historic center of Lusciano and consists of a noble house built over a suggestive tuff cave. The Asprinio vine, with a millenary history, is cultivated on very high free-standing vines according to the alberata system, supported and “married” to the very tall poplars. The harvest, strictly manual, therefore requires heroic efforts using the typical “scalillo”, a long and narrow ladder. The harvested grapes are taken to the characteristic tuff caves for the production of white wine and, today, also sparkling wines.
The wines of the I Borboni winery have become a symbol and a reference point for Asprinio di Aversa, vinified as still or sparkling. Love for the territory, dedication, and sacrifice are the values that have allowed the protection of the vine and its history and that contributed to the establishment of the DOC in 1993. These labels offer precious testimony of territorial traditions, already known in Antiquity, which risked being lost forever and which, fortunately, have been preserved thanks to the work and effort of producers like the Numeroso family.
