Il Cancelliere

In Montemarano, an area with a high winemaking vocation in the Taurasi region, lies the artisanal reality of Il Cancelliere, a small family-run winery dedicated to the production of local wines. It was Soccorso Romano who undertook this project in 2005, revitalizing the family estate, located precisely in contrada Lampenne. The property includes a nineteenth-century farmhouse that has always belonged to the Romano family, beneath which is a small renovated cellar where the processes of winemaking and aging take place. Soccorso, who mainly takes care of the vineyards, is assisted by his wife Pasqualina, his son Enrico, and his daughter-in-law Rita. The name Il Cancelliere comes from the nickname affectionately given to Soccorso's grandfather, who used to dispense legal advice to farmers. The winery is also a co-founder of the association V.i.T.I., Vignaioli in Terre d’Irpinia, aimed at promoting family-run realities in the territory that operate by excluding the use of chemical substances.working with artisanal care on the Aglianico grape.

The just 7 hectares of vineyards owned by the Il Cancelliere estate are distributed over 12 different plots entirely dedicated to Aglianico, the undisputed king of the Taurasi territory. This grape benefits from the clay-limestone matrix of the soils and the high altitudes, ranging from 450 to 630 meters above sea level, as well as from sustainable agronomic management based on the principles of certified organic farming. In order to not mask or minimally alter the expression of the terroir, the adopted enology is minimalist, with spontaneous fermentations without temperature control, prolonged macerations on the skins, aging in old wooden barrels of fifth or sixth passage, exclusion of clarification and filtration operations, and no addition of sulfites.

The wines of the Il Cancelliere winery are configured as true and traditional expressions ofthe Aglianico from Irpinia. In the selection, the Aglianico ‘Gioviano’ and the Taurasi ‘Nero Né’, two highly valuable wines, worthy ambassadors of the grape and the territory.
