Llorens Jordi
Jordi Llorens is an authentic winemaker from Catalonia, a rising star of Spanish viticulture and already known worldwide for his artisanal and very territorial style. The winery was inaugurated in 2008, but Jordi can rely on a much longer farming tradition. His family has been cultivating vines and producing wine for at least eight generations and has owned agricultural properties since 1779.
Celler Jordi Llorens is located in Blancafort, a small village in the Conca de Barbera, in southern Catalonia, in a territory very suited for viticulture. The family properties consist of 20 hectares managed in polyculture, which also includes 14 hectares of vineyards. The vines are rooted in calcareous and rocky soils, rich in calcium carbonate, and have mostly been planted by Jordi, who has solid expertise in geology. The cultivation approach is based on respect for the environment, the soils, and the plants, and on observing natural cycles; for this reason, the principles of organic farming are strictly followed. In the winery, blends are preferred, with the union of two or more varieties, the fermentations occur spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts and the macerations are quite long. The vinifications mainly take place in terracotta amphorae, but also in steel or small barrels. The goal is to produce without resorting to additives and, very often, no added sulfites are used.
The wines of Jordi Llorens retain the spontaneity and the rural spirit of the Catalan territory. They arise from the concept that the union of multiple grape varieties can offer a more authentic and truthful vision of the terroir, expressed as a synthesis of the diversities of the grape varieties used, as if they were the colors of a painting. The cultivated varieties are indigenous and traditional, such as Macabeu, Parellada, and Garnacha Tinta, but there are also some plots of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Vinified as a blend, they tend to express the vibrant freshness and juicy fleshiness of the Catalan coast.
