Colin Joseph

The Domaine of Joseph Colin is located in Burgundy, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune. It is a young reality, but it has behind it an ancient tradition of a family of winemakers, who have been present in the area for generations. In 2016, Joseph Colin decided to leave the family domaine, which he managed with his sister and brother, and to embark on a personal adventure in the world of wine. Thus, the Joseph Colin estate was born, with a vineyard area of just over six hectares, planted with the classic grape varieties of the area: over 90% with Chardonnay and the rest with Pinot Noir and Aligoté. The vines are divided into many small parcels located in different and famous Appellations.

Most of the estate is located in the best Premier Cru of Saint-Aubin, a small village situated in the southern area of the Côte de Beaune, with parcels at an altitude of 300-350 meters above sea level with exposure facing east or southeast. The soils are characterized by white lands with a high percentage of limestone, reserved for the cultivation of white grape varieties and brown lands ideal for reds. Some vines are located in the municipality of Chassagne-Montrachet, always the cradle of Chardonnay, which is cultivated on gentle slopes characterized by the presence of precious limestone marls. Finally, some parcels are located in the area of Puligny-Montrachet, on brown limestone or clay-limestone soils, at an altitude of 230-320 meters above sea level and with exposures facing east and southeast. The climate, cool and ventilated, is particularly suitable for high-quality viticulture, based on high planting density and low yields.

The vines are cared for with great attention, adopting the best practices of organic and biodynamic agriculture and following the lunar phase calendar. The harvests are carried out manually with selection of the bunches in the vineyard, in order to bring only healthy and intact grapes into the winery. The vinifications are carried out in a very simple way, trying to let the full potential of the grapes express itself and intervening as little as possible. All choices are made with a single objective: to create wines capable of interpretingthe terroir authentically.
