Jure Stekar
The Jure Štekar winery is located in Snežatno, in the Slovenian region of Goriška Brda, a continuation across the border of the Collio goriziano. It produces artisan wines, faithful to ancient traditions, seeking to enhance a territory with great potential. The area boasts an ancient history in viticulture, dating back to the times of the ancient Romans. The foundation of Aquileia, an important commercial hub of the upper Adriatic, led to the spread of the vine throughout the region. The Štekar family has been present in these lands for more generations, and since 2012, the farm has been managed by Jure, who not only continued the work of his ancestors but also founded the new winery and started bottling the wine.
The estate is located in a particularly suited area. Goriška Brda is a beautiful hilly region, still rich in woods and sparsely populated, where the vineyards are cultivated in a context of rich environmental biodiversity. The climate is temperate, influenced by the mild breezes of the Adriatic Sea and the natural protection against disturbances coming from the north, provided by the Prealps.against the disturbances coming down from the north, offered by the reliefs of the Prealps. The soils are of ancient marine origin and consist of flysch or opoka in Slovenian. These are outcrops of layers of sandstone and calcareous-clay marls, friable and rich in minerals. They are stony, poor, and very draining soils, ideal for high-quality viticulture that favors low natural yields.
The agronomic management of the vineyards is carried out in full respect of nature, trying to interfere as little as possible with the balance of the ecosystem. The estate is certified organic and for treatments, only copper, sulfur, and natural herb-based preparations are used. The grape varieties cultivated are the classic ones of the area: Ribolla Gialla, Pinot Grigio, Malvasia, Sauvignonasse for whites, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot for reds. In the cellar, very simple traditional vinifications are carried out with minimal intervention, aiming to favor the direct expression of the grapes. This results in straightforward wines with an authentic taste, which perfectly represent the best characteristics of the terroir.
