Kyro Distillery
The Kyro Distillery is a Finnish distillery born from the idea of five friends united by their passion for whisky and rye-based foods, called ‘rye’ in English, hence gathered under the banner “in rye we trust”. Rye is indeed one of the main foods in Finland and in 2014, during a sauna, the five friends wondered why, despite Finns having a reputation for being great drinkers, no one had thought of distilling rye in Finland. After two months they founded the distillery.
The Kyro Distillery is located in the quiet village of Isokyro, surrounded by birch trees and crossed by the Kyro river, frozen for many months of the year. In just a few years, thanks to the high quality and uniqueness of the gins and whiskies produced, it has received awards and recognitions worldwide expanding its market beyond national borders. Today it is run with passion and liveliness by a large team of young people who love to define themselves as a family, where each member is different from the other and performs different functions for the good of the group. Creativity, imagination, innovation, friendship, and connection to the territory are the principles that guide the production work.
The distillates of the Kyro Distillery are all made from Finnish rye and embody the scents, aromas, and soul of the territory. For this reason, bartender Juho Valiaho, who works at the distillery, loves to repeat that it is impossible to describe these distillates to someone who has never visited a forest in Finland. Green pines, birch wood, expanses of herbs and wildflowers, sea buckthorn, and other shrubs are indeed the scents that can be recognized when drinking a distillate from the Kyro Distillery, which is like immersing oneself in a Finnish natural landscape.
