La Costaiola

La Costaiola is a winery in the Oltrepò Pavese located in the beautiful hilly area between Casteggio and Montebello della Battaglia, in the province of Pavia. The first traces of the estate are ancient, dating back to the 17th century, however, the recent history began in 1938, when Luigi Carbone, the great-grandfather of the current owners, purchased the first vineyards and started producing the first wines. The company continued to grow with subsequent acquisitions and already in the post-war period, it had established itself as one of the most vibrant realities in the area. Today, the helm of the company is in the hands of Simona Scrivani, Fabio, and Michele Rossetti, who carry on the ancient family traditions with great competence and passion.

The La Costaiola estate extends over a total of 13 hectares, cultivated on the gentle slopes of the Oltrepò Pavese, among the woods of a still wild landscape. This small territory at the southernmost tip of Lombardy, nestled between Piemonte and Emilia, has always been very suited for viticulture. Its climate mild and ventilated, the land consists of fine Eocene marls, predominantly composed of clays and limestone, offers an ideal habitat for the vine. In addition to the native red grape variety Croatina, the territory is also very suitable for the cultivation of various international varieties, particularly Pinot Nero, which has been grown in these lands since the 19th century and expresses itself at excellent levels, both with still wines and in sparkling version made with the Metodo Classico.

The magnificent exposures and careful management of the vineyards with low yields allow for the production of high-quality, healthy, and ripe grapes. Following a very respectful agronomic approach to the nature of the territory, winemaking is carried out with great care and attention, always aiming to produce wines elegant and with great expressive finesse. The modern winery is equipped with cutting-edge technologies, at the service of tradition. La Costaiola has always been committed to creating wines capable of faithfully interpreting the characteristics of the Oltrepò Pavese territory and its most ancient customs.
