La Ferme du Plateau
La Ferme du Plateau represents a wine-growing reality of the Loire characterized by a sincere and authentically artisanal productive spirit. The Domaine was founded in 2014 near the municipality of Savennières from the enthusiasm of Adrien Baloche and his wife Anne. The two, after years of wandering around France, settled in the Touraine area in 2012, where Adrien worked for two years with the young artisanal winemaker Marie Thibault before starting his own venture. Adrien takes care of everything related to the agronomic and enological aspects of the estate, while Anne is dedicated to raising goats for the production of delicious cheeses.
The La Ferme du Plateau winery consists of 40 hectares, of which 6 are dedicated to vines. The vineyards are surrounded by woods, orchards, gardens, and spaces for goat farming, in a context of polyculture and remarkable biodiversity. Following the principles of organic farming, Adrien mainly cultivates Gamay and Grolleau, the latter with vines over 80 years old. Smaller percentages are reserved for Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Francand Cabernet Sauvignon. The agronomic operations, from pruning to harvesting, are carried out by hand. In the winery, all fermentations occur spontaneously thanks to the intervention of indigenous yeasts, and the aging takes place mostly in steel tanks, so as not to alter the unique expression of the terroir. Furthermore, throughout the entire winemaking process, Adrien refuses to use additives and enological aids as well as clarifications and filtrations.
The wines of Domaine La Ferme du Plateau clearly and personally reflect the attributes of the different grape varieties and the territory, interpreted through the identitary style of Adrien Baloche. They are mostly reds with great freshness and dynamism, with a crunchy fruit always in evidence. The illustrations on the labels are also charming.
