La Poderina
La Poderina is the expression of Tenute del Cerro in the Montalcino area, particularly in the Castelnuovo dell'Abate zone, a region especially suited for viticulture, known for the elegance and balance of its grapes, capable of producing Brunelli of great body and class. The winery represents the meeting point between classicism and international vocation, between indigenous grape varieties and winemaking methods from across the Alps. The winery is characterized by a corporate philosophy that believes in innovation in the service of tradition, which has translated over the years into courageous choices made starting from the cultivation systems of the vines, moving on to the vinification of the grapes and their maturation.
The vineyards of La Poderina extend for about 38 hectares with a South-East exposure and predominantly host Sangiovese grapes, alongside parcels of Moscato. La Poderina adopts cultivation systems that are much stricter than those described by the regulations for Brunello, with a maximum yield of the vines well below that prescribed, to concentrate the best qualities of the terroir in each bunch. The harvest is then carried out manually, to carefully select the grapes without damaging them. Under the guidance of winemaker Raffaele Pistucchia and the expert consultancy of Riccardo Cotarella, the Brunelli from La Poderina are aged not only in large barrels but also using French oak barriques, which give the production elegance and extraordinary complexity.
As with all the sister estates, La Poderina has also embraced the mission of fully enhancing the territory that hosts it, making itself well recognizable for an impeccable yet unexpected oenological imprint, but always authentic and true to itself. The careful and meticulous work done in the vineyard and in the winery has guaranteed over the years results of astonishing quality, even for the most difficult vintages of recent decades. It is no coincidence that the production of the estate has been praised multiple times by both national and international critics, confirming itself as a certainty of the Montalcino area.
