La Toledana

The Toledana winery is an important reality of the territory of Gavi, the southern area of Alessandrino, famous for the great whites made with the Cortese grape. It is a beautiful area of gentle hills, that rise gently towards the first foothills of the Ligurian mountains. The estate has very ancient origins and develops around an ancient noble residence, which still today represents the center of the company. Born as a traditional agricultural company, it is around the mid-1800s that it begins its conversion and specialization in viticulture, renewing its face with Cortese plantings intended to produce white wine for the Ligurian market.

The estate extends over an area of 26 hectares, located around the Villa, in an area that offers a remarkable variety of exposures, slopes, and soil compositions, which allows for the production of grapes of excellent quality, with slightly different characteristics depending on the individual plots. The Gavi area is particularly suitable for viticulture, due to a temperate and sunny climate, always ventilated also thanks to the gentle breezes that rise from the Ligurian Sea towards the inland. The good temperature excursions allow for slow ripening of the bunches with intense and elegant aromas. The soils are particularly suited and composed of limestone and sandstones, with the presence of white marls rich in marine fossils.

the undisputed protagonist of the Gavi territory is the Cortese grape, a native Piedmontese white grape that has found its cradle in this area. It is a rather productive and generous variety, which should be cultivated with low yields so that it can concentrate the aromas in few bunches and produce grapes of superior quality. Thanks to a remarkable oenological versatility and natural longevity, with Cortese one can produce sparkling wines, young and
