Livon is one of the most important estates in Friuli. The estate is located in Dolegnano, a hamlet of San Giovanni al Natisone, and has over fifty years of history behind it. Back in 1964, Dorino Livon bought the first land in the Collio area, just near the Slovenian border. The area is historically highly suited for viticulture, and precisely because he believed in the area's potential, Dorino continued to invest in land, gradually expanding the property with parcels selected with special care and knowledge of the area. Slowly the Livon estate took shape, destined in the following decades to become one of the main protagonists of the area, thanks to an artisanal production very attentive to tradition and quality.
The winery's turning point came during the 1980s, when his sons Valneo and Tonino joined their father and decided to decisively take the road to excellence. Also making its way in these years was the desire to begin to enhance individual terroirs, producing labels capable of bringing to the glass the typicality of individual areas or even of a single vineyard. The production of labels of real estate cru, has also led to lowering the yields in the vineyard and making increasingly delicate and accurate vinifications, to bring the varietal characteristics of the grapes to the fore. A product line intended to occupy the higher end of the market, which has given greater value to all the winery's work. The change also involved production, with the Masarotte winery becoming the place of vinification for the most prestigious labels of white wines, and the Vencò winery for red wines.
Subsequent development of the winery mainly involved a desire to broaden its outlook and measure itself against other important Italian wine territories. The first two acquisitions of wineries in Friuli, Villa Chiopris and Tenuta Roncalto, were followed by those of Borgo Salcetino, located in the lands of Chianti Classico, and Coldanto in Montefalco, in the heart of Umbria. More than half a century after its founding, Livon still represents the authentic soul of Friuli wine. A few years ago, young Matteo Livon joined the company and began taking care of the estate while remaining faithful to family traditions.
