Louis Loron

In southern Burgundy, precisely within the municipality of Fleurie, since 1932 the family-run winery Louis Loron has been offering classy Crémant de Bourgogne. After 4 generations, it is still one of the few production realities in Beaujolais that produces sparkling wines using the Metodo Classico. It was Charles Loron in the 1930s who, on the suggestion of one of his employees from Champagne, began experimenting with the most famous sparkling technique. In 1975, after the official birth of the ‘Crémant de Bourgogne’ denomination, the winery made a definitive leap in quality, also aided by the modernization of the premises and technologies that occurred over the following decades.

For over 80 years, the Loron Luis et Fils winery has been producing wines using traditional methods. The varieties cultivated are Gamay for red grapes and Chardonnay for whites. In order to preserve the integrity of the grapes, the harvest is done by hand in small crates, and the grapes are then gently pressed. The must obtained is left to clarify spontaneously for 18-24 hours, so that the finished wine is clear and free of unpleasant aromas, and subsequently undergoes alcoholic fermentation in steel. Once the fermentation phase is completed and after a brief aging, it is time to compose the cuvée, carefully choosing the percentages of the blend based on the characteristics of each variety. In fact, while Chardonnay provides elegance and minerality, Gamay adds structure and liveliness. The sparkling base is then bottled and added with liqueur d’expédition, followed by a minimum 12-month period of aging on the lees. The processing is concluded by dégorgement and subsequent dosage.

In addition to fine and very pleasant Crémant de Bourgogne, made in classic, Blanc de Blancs, and Rosé versions, Louis Loron produces red wines from the AOCs of Beaujolais, such as Moulin-à-Vent and Saint-Amour, and whites coming from both Beaujolais and the nearby Mâconnais. A wide range that stands out for pleasantness and balance.
