Lunarossa
Between the Amalfi Coast and Cilento, nestled between the Campanian Apennines and the coastline of the province of Salerno, the small winery Lunarossa produces strongly territorial wines in a harmonious blend of tradition and a desire to experiment. Founded in 2010 in Giffoni Valle Piana, at the foot of the Picentini Mountains, the estate is led by Mario Mazzitelli, an enthusiastic owner and winemaker who, with the consultancy of winemaker Sebastiano Fortunato, aims to give voice to this evocative territory endowed with enormous viticultural potential.
The Lunarossa estate covers just 5 hectares of vineyards, reserved for the traditional Campanian varieties Aglianico, Fiano, and Falanghina, as well as the rare indigenous Salernitan grape Santa Sofia, long confused with Fiano. The vineyards, located at altitudes ranging from 180 to 500 meters above sea level, benefit from the clay-limestone matrix of the soils and the simultaneous influence of the cool Picentini Mountains and the mild sea breezes coming from the nearby Gulf of Salerno. The agronomic approach of the estate is based on a sincere concept of viticulture sustainable and, according to the same vision, non-invasive winemaking practices are applied in the cellar, highly respectful of the character of the territory. In this perspective, fermentations are entrusted to indigenous yeasts, clarification or filtration operations are usually not employed, and even the whites are often subjected to long macerations on the skins, aimed at extracting the varietal and territorial essence. As wine containers, stainless steel tanks, barriques, large wooden barrels, and, above all, buried terracotta amphorae are adopted.
The labels of the Campanian winery Lunarossa reflect Mario Mazzitelli's desire to experiment, always respecting local traditions and the unique characteristics of the Picentini Mountains territory. If you want to have a taste of the viticultural potential of this land, just taste the wines of Lunarossa, expressions between the sea and the mountains that impress with their great liveliness and eloquence.
