Maison Foucher
The Maison Foucher is a historic estate of the Loire Valley, which has been producing great wines since 1921 in one of the most vocated areas of the French territory. The property has vineyards in the main Appellations of the region, particularly Saumur, Vouvray, Sancerre, and Pouilly-Fumé. The introduction of vine cultivation in the Loire Valley is attributed to the ancient Romans, who began planting vineyards along the riverbanks during the colonization of Gaul. Thanks to the work of Augustinian and Benedictine monks, the ancient tradition has been passed down through the centuries to the present day. Today, the vineyard of the Loire Valley is among the most extensive and famous in all of France and in 2000 it was classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its landscape, architectural, and artistic value.
The area is characterized by a continental, cool, and breezy climate. The presence of the river acts as a sort of natural temperature regulator, mitigating extremes and avoiding the danger of spring frosts. From a soil perspective, view of the soils, the Saumur and Touraine area is characterized by the presence of limestone, sands, clays, and silica, originating from the ancient Bassin Parisien, while the Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé area is marked by the presence of marine-origin limestone soils from the Kimmeridgian and by stony soils composed of flint, pebbles, and clays. The different soil compositions allow for an appreciation of the nuances of the terroir, interpreted by the historically cultivated grape varieties in the central Loire Valley: Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc.
The domaine Foucher is managed with full respect for nature and in 2010 the first certified organic label was produced. The use of chemical products has been banned in the countryside, with only sulfur and copper used. A healthy and respectful viticulture is the basis for the production of genuine and authentic wines, capable of faithfully representing the territory. The Maison Foucher is a true "Boutique Winery", appreciated by enthusiasts for the artisanal care with which it still produces its wines.produces its wines.
