Manicardi
The history of the Emilia-based winery Manicardi, an authentic interpreter of the Castelvetro territory, in the province of Modena, began in the 1980s with Enzo Manicardi, who, falling in love with these hills rich in biodiversity, decided to start his own winemaking project focusing on the production of high-quality territorial wines. The management of the estate is now in the hands of his daughters Livia and Raffella, who, with the same passion as their father, continue the work of enhancing the enological value of the Castelvetro area. The winery is also engaged in the production of vinegars and extra virgin olive oil. The vineyards owned by the Manicardi estate extend over about 17 hectares planted on hilly land that enjoys a full southern exposure and an altitude that reaches up to 300 meters above sea level. The soils are medium-textured tending towards clayey, the climate is characterized by good temperature excursions and constant ventilation while the agronomic management refers to the principles of integrated pest management and organic farming, aimed at minimizing the environmental impact. Based on these pedoclimatic and agronomic parameters, the Manicardi family cultivates the indigenous grape varieties Lambrusco Grasparossa and Pignoletto above all, but also other traditional varieties like Malbo Gentile. Fermentations are carried out at controlled temperatures to preserve the primary aromas of the wine, while the sparkling process takes place in autoclaves according to the Charmat or Martinotti Method. The wines are finally bottled under isobaric conditions to avoid losing the natural effervescence produced during refermentation. Tasting the wines of the Manicardi winery, one can perceive the original desire of the founder Enzo to encapsulate in the bottle the heart of the Castelvetro land, enhanced through the combination of ancient peasant knowledge and modern winemaking techniques. The foundation of Manicardi's production is sparkling wines, white or red, dry or sweet, an authentic business card of an entire territory.
