Deiss Marcel
The Marcel Deiss winery represents a historic Alsatian wine-growing reality, capable of writing a beautiful chapter in regional enology by positioning itself as a promoter of values such as sustainability and quality. The Domaine is located in the village of Bergheim, a few kilometers north of Colmar, where in 1947 the winery was officially founded by Marcel Deiss, who inherited a family wine legacy dating back to the 1700s. The estate is now led by Mathieu Deiss with the support of his father Jean-Michel, advocates of conscientious viticulture focused on authenticity and expressive depth. A cornerstone of the Deiss family's production philosophy is biodynamic farming, which, combined with low yields per hectare and the adoption of traditional practices, allows for the production of wines of extraordinary purity that reflect the characteristics of the vintage and the terroir. Among the prestigious Grand Cru vineyards that the Domaine can boast are Altenberg de Bergheim, Mambourg, and Schoenenbourg, in addition to numerous Premier Cru plots.
The varietal platform of the Marcel Deiss estate is very rich, including the four grape varieties permitted in Alsatian Grand Crus, namely Gewurztraminer, Riesling Renano, Muscat, and Pinot Gris, as well as other traditional varieties such as Sylvaner, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Beurot, Muscat Rouge, and Chasselas. The vineyards, spread over 32 hectares and managed according to the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture, are planted on white soils rich in mineral elements and characterized by the presence of stones, marls, gravel, clay, sand, and limestone varying according to the reference area. After manual harvesting, the grapes are pressed whole, and the fermentations occur entirely spontaneously thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts. For winemaking, large oak barrels are primarily used, where the wines mature for long periods on the fine lees, although for some labels stainless steel tanks are also employed, always respecting the character of the territory and the variety while excluding the use of any inputs.
The wines of Domaine Marcel Deiss are configured as authentic expressions of the noble terroir of origin, complex, broad, and highly expressive interpretations, endowed with exceptional longevity and a vibrant mineral signature.
