Maria Donata Bianchi

The winery Maria Donata Bianchi is a historic and now well-established wine-growing reality of the Ponente Ligure, located in the flourishing area of Diano Aretino. It is always nice to follow the evolution in the history of a small agricultural reality, but in this specific case it is perhaps even more beautiful. Here the generational change from father Emanuele to Marta Trevia, a young female winemaker, has been realized with rare skill and positivity: the contribution of new energies blends with the historic production approach of the house. Emanuele is always present, but he has wisely tailored a role of supervisor and support, rather than command.

Maria Donata Bianchi is a pink winery surrounded by a magnificent landscape of rare simplicity: in front green and steep terraces, around a dark forest rich in biodiversity, beside a well-equipped and hospitable agriturismo, Agriturismo Valcrosa opened in 2009. The property today counts 4 hectares divided between Diano Aretino and Diano Castello; at 350 meters above sea level, caressed by breezes and teased by the warm sun, the vines enjoy a perfect exposure, on soils rich in limestone. Between the rows, cover cropping is practiced and the principles of organic farming, which have been at home for a long time, will soon bear fruit transforming into the much-desired certification on the label.

Today it is Marta who carefully guards the secrets of Maria Donata Bianchi, strong from her field experiences in New World wine regions and the support of Joao Ramos, agronomist and beekeeper. She produces white wines of the Ligurian tradition from typical grapes such as Vermentino and Pigato, vinifying them in steel tanks to enhance the classic herbaceous and Mediterranean profile of the starting fruit. As for the red wines, the varieties used are mainly Grenache and Syrah, which give life to light and highly drinkable liquids. The common thread of the new path undertaken by Marta is represented by a rigorous respect for the environment that surrounds her: only by living in balance with Nature, it is possible to transform the typical roughness of the Ligurian territory into light products full of character and expressiveness.
