Maria Pia Castelli

Maria Pia Castelli is an artisanal winery in the Marche region of Italy that produces highly territorial wines through an approach capable of combining the knowledge of tradition with modern techniques and knowledge in the wine industry. The estate was founded in 1999 by Erasmo Castelli, Maria Pia's father, who together with her husband Enrico Bartoletti now leads the winery located in the province of Fermo, in the hills of the municipality of Monte Urano. Thanks to the meticulous attention paid throughout the entire production cycle, from vineyard work to vinification, Maria Pia Castelli's wines have won fans and critics nationally and internationally, shaping themselves as a bastion of artisanal winemaking in the Marche region.

The agronomic management adopted by the Maria Pia Castelli estate is based on respect for the practices provided byorganic and biodynamic agriculture, prerequisites through which the Castelli family takes care of 8 hectares of vineyards. These are dedicated to Sangiovese and Montepulciano among the black varieties, and Pecorino, Passerina, Trebbiano and Malvasia Bianca di Candia among the white grapes. The plants benefit from the altitude of 200 meters above sea level and the clay matrix of the soils, which are also rich in mineral elements such as iron and magnesium. In addition, the particular geographical location, squeezed between the Sibillini Mountains and the Adriatic Sea, contributes to the area's distinctive climate. The grapes are harvested by hand with careful selection of the bunches, and in the winery fermentations take place spontaneously mostly in oak vats, with prolonged maceration on the skins, although stainless steel tanks are also adopted for wines of greater immediacy. French oak barrels or steel containers may be used for the subsequent aging phase, again depending on the label in question. Throughout processing, sulfite additions are then minimal and invasive clarification and filtration are excluded.

The production of the Maria Pia Castelli winery succeeds in conveying the character of the Monte Urano area, with a style that is in many ways innovative, but at the same time firmly rooted in tradition, with a strong personality.
