Palusci Marina

The Palusci winery is a small reality that has been cultivating vineyards in Pianella for more generations in the generous Abruzzo land. The estate extends into the wonderful hilly area of the Pescara hinterland, just a few kilometers from the Adriatic coast. The area has always been very suited for vine cultivation, which has been a protagonist of the agricultural landscape of the region for centuries. The Abruzzo hills are indeed located between the high peaks of the Apennines and the beaches of the Adriatic coast. This particular conformation of the territory positively influences the climate, which is Mediterranean-type, with mild winters, hot summers, but always very breezy due to the presence of air currents descending from the mountains and marine breezes rising from the coast inland.

The vineyards are cultivated on medium-textured soils, of a calcareous-clay nature, which have proven to be very suitable for both the needs of red grape varieties and white grape varieties. The presence of good temperature excursions between the temperatures recorded at night and during the day, allows for slow ripening of the grapes, with the development of particularly rich and intense aromas. The uncontaminated environmental context has pushed the winery to adopt agronomic choices in harmony with nature. Herbicides, fertilizers, and chemical treatments are banned between the rows, and only sulfur and copper are used, in order to bring only perfectly healthy and genuine grapes to the winery. Attention in the vineyard is, in fact, the basis of the entire production process and an essential prerequisite for making great wines.

From the perspective of the selected grape varieties, the Marina Palusci winery has decided to focus on the historical varieties of the territory, which have demonstrated a perfect interaction with the places for centuries, particularly: Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Pecorino, and Passerina, two white grape varieties that have been recovered and enhanced only in recent decades, which are proving to possess remarkable potential. Even in the winery, simplicity is preferred, with spontaneous fermentations carried out using only indigenous yeasts, without the addition of any additives and with very low percentages of sulfur dioxide, sulfur dioxide, well below the limits set by the regulations of organic farming.
