Mario Bagella
Mario Bagella is a young Sardinian winemaker with 5 generations of winemaking heritage rooted in Sorso, a town in the north-west of the island overlooking the magnificent Gulf of Asinara. His skill lies in the ability to integrate ancient artisanal knowledge with modern transformation techniques, with the sole aim of giving voice to the territory and its production philosophy. In fact, Mario sees wine as a noble means of expressing himself and sharing his vision.
Sorso is located in Romangia, an ancient wine-growing area of extraordinary vocation, composed of hills that form a natural amphitheater by the sea enjoying the constant presence of briny breezes. It is no coincidence that the Ancient Romans chose to colonize this area first in all of Sardinia, partly for its agricultural suitability and partly for its strategic commercial position. The soils are predominantly limestone-based, another factor that contributes to the production of exceptional quality grapes, and the varieties cultivated by Mario Bagella are those traditionally found in this unique patch of land, namely Cannonau, Cagnulari, Vermentino, Moscato, the latter vinified dry. Once ripe, the grapes are hand-picked into crates and then transferred to the winery where fermentation takes place through the action of indigenous yeasts. All the masses mature exclusively in steel tanks on the fine lees, in order not to distort the intrinsic characteristics of the grape variety and the territory.
The range of labels offered by the winery encompasses various types, such as white and red wines and orange wine refermented in the bottle according to the Ancestral Method. In each bottle, one can perceive the breath of the sea and the Mediterranean scrub that dots the hills, as well as all the expressive richness and generosity that this noble land confers. Because Mario wants the wine to be a photograph of the territory and a representation of the daily work of the winemaker.
