Gatta Mario

The winery of Mario Gatta is a small wine-producing reality in the Franciacorta area specialized in the production of artisan sparkling wines obtained using the Classic Method. Its story begins at the end of the 1950s, when Maria and Angelo, Mario's parents, moved from Alta Val Trompia to Cellatica, where they purchased land and vineyards and began to produce wine. Mario grew up following in his father's footsteps, who introduced him to the world of viticulture. Today he passionately oversees the family business, applying the agronomist knowledge he has acquired over the years.

The vineyards of Mario Gatta extend over 4 hectares on a hill at 400 meters above sea level in the eastern area of Franciacorta. The soils, of marine origin, are rich in limestone rocks and clay and host Chardonnay and Pinot Nero vines. According to Mario, human intervention in the vineyard should be limited to what is necessary: nature knows how to defend itself, and man can only help it in this like a father and a mother caring for their child.

driven by love and patience. For this reason, since 2003/2004, Mario has adopted a responsible viticulture eliminating all types of herbicides and chemicals. The hand-picked grapes are pressed and left to ferment on indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks. They undergo a secondary fermentation in the bottle according to the Classic Method and a very long aging on the fine lees, which for the Rosé Era reaches as much as 120 months.

The line of Mario Gatta includes 4 labels, each of which bears the name of a character from Greek mythology, emphasizing the connection between the production method and the ancient classical world. The sparkling wines of Mario Gatta possess great minerality and freshness and blend together the soul of the family, the nature of the territory, and the excellence of the method. They manage, like few other expressions, to touch the deepest chords of the heart and leave one breathless.
