Simcic Marjan
Marjan Simcic is a talented and authentic winemaker from Collio. His vineyards are located partly in the area called Goriska Brda, which is in the Slovenian Collio, and partly in the Friulano Collio. Since 1988, he has been carefully managing the ancient family winery, founded by his ancestor Jozef Simcic in 1860, with passion and love for the territory and traditions. With this long tradition and extraordinary talent, Marjan creates wines of great personality and character, endowed with elegance, precision, and compactness.
The Collio area, both on the Italian and Slovenian sides, offers ideal climatic conditions for vine cultivation and the production of high-quality grapes. Marja Simcic knows this well, which is why he has chosen a cultivation method close to nature, without resorting to artificial fertilizers or insecticides. Among the 18 hectares of his property, Marjan has identified, after years of experience and technical checks, a particularly suited cru called Opoka, a word translatable.as ponca, 'clay of eolic sediments'. From this soil poor in organic substances but rich in mineral salts, wines of extraordinary elegance and complexity are born, representing the expressive peak of Marjan.
Simcic's production is divided into three lines: the classic wines, produced from the youngest vines, are made only in steel; the wines of the Selekcija line come from the oldest vines, age in wooden barrels for at least 2 years, and are not filtered; the wines of the Opoka line are produced only in the best vintages, age between 22 and 36 months in the best oak barrels, are not filtered, and are marketed after 6 months of rest in the bottle. Each of these expressions, from the youngest to the most evolved and complex, embodies the harmony born from the synergy between one of the most vocated territories in the world and the technical and artistic ability of the winemaker.
