Markus Molitor

Markus Molitor is part of that small number of producers who best represent, with his great Rieslings, the exceptional winemaking of the Moselle valley. The prestige and absolute quality of Markus Molitor's Rieslings are the result of a production philosophy based on intense work that begins in the vineyard and can be summed up in this maxim: “rigorous selection, manual harvesting, and careful control are the principles on which our work is based.”

Markus Molitor has been managing the winery and the family estate since 1984, when he was only 20 years old. In just a few years, Markus expanded the estate's vineyards from 3 to 40 hectares, all located in the so-called Mittel Mosel and divided into more than 30 extremely suitable plots. The yields per hectare are extremely low, and the harvests are often carried out late, at a very advanced ripeness of the grapes, in order to produce sweet and complex Rieslings: Markus's interpretations of Spatlese and Auslese are among the best in all of Moselle!

but in extremely limited quantities. In the winery, the must clarifies naturally through sedimentation, and the fermentations take place without the addition of yeasts in steel and wood, according to a low-intervention winemaking philosophy: “after so many days of work in the vineyard, almost nothing needs to be done in the winery to obtain a perfect wine.” Unlike other producers in Moselle, Markus believes that Riesling should age for a while in wood before being bottled; for this reason, his wines are extremely rich and complex, full-bodied and powerful, yet at the same time endowed with great elegance and an infinite aging potential: great fruits of the Moselle valley.
