Mickaël Bourg

Mickaël Bourg is a talented artisan producer from the Cornas area, Northern Rhône, who is helping to write a new chapter in the region's enology through a genuine and minimalist approach, still faithful to tradition, aimed at offering the purest expression of the terroir. Mickaël officially embarked on his winemaking adventure in 2006 starting from scratch, without a winemaking tradition behind him, after years spent working as a mechanic. Initially, the winemaker rented some vineyards from producer Matthieu Barret of Domaine du Coulet where he worked, before starting to independently acquire several vineyards in the areas of Cornas and Saint-Péray, always driven by his engaging enthusiasm and energy.

The vineyards worked by Mickaël Bourg extend over just 3 hectares, almost exclusively dedicated to Syrah, the identity grape of the AOC of Cornas. This grape, which has made the region prosperous, is accompanied by the white grape variety Marsanne destined for the production of Saint-Péray, sought-after denomination of Northern Rhône that includes refined white wines. The vines, cultivated following the principles of organic farming, are planted on clay and limestone soils of granitic nature, characterized by steep slopes that in some places are almost prohibitive. In fact, in the most inclined vineyards, Mickaël is forced to tie himself to work the rows safely. In the cellar, the bunches are vinified whole with fermentations entrusted solely to indigenous yeasts, followed by long maturations in small oak barrels, more used for Syrah and new for Marsanne.

The limited production of winemaker Mickaël Bourg impresses with the exceptional dynamism and strong character of the wines, as well as their sincere and unconventional spirit. In particular, the Cornas ‘Les P’tits Bouts’ is the wine that made the producer famous in the world of artisanal wines, a pure and rich Syrah, with an intensely fruity and spicy aromatic profile capable of evoking the most authentic face }]},{of the denomination.
