Milziade Antano

In Umbria, in the enchanting area between Montefalco and Bevagna, is the Milziade Antano Winery. Milziade, a Knight of Labor, worked as a sharecropper for agricultural companies in the region until in 1969 he decided to take the big leap, purchasing with enormous sacrifices 30 hectares of land and starting his own agricultural activity. In the early years, wine was only a secondary product, coming from about half a hectare of vineyard present on the owned land, but soon Milziade saw the great potential of those clayey and mineral-rich lands and began planting new vines.

In 1975, the first vintage of Montefalco Rosso and Sagrantino Passito was released, and only in 1985 were the first bottles of dry Sagrantino produced, and in 1997 the first Sagrantino Colleallodole DOCG was produced. Colleallodole is a fanciful name, inspired by the larks that fly over the vineyards during their migrations. Milziade Antano passed away prematurely in 2001, and his son Francesco, who inherited from his father the passion for wine and the land, took over the management of the Winery, assisted by his brother Maurizio, from mom Iole and later also from son Giordano.

Today the winery owns about 40 hectares of land, 15 of which are vineyards, with a small part planted with white grape varieties. Francesco Antano is an "extreme" producer, no compromises, maximum care in the vineyard, few bunches of great quality, in the winery no yeasts, no small barrels, Francesco's wine must not be treated or filtered and must faithfully express the exceptional qualities of the Umbrian terroir, quality must be the main objective to achieve at any cost.

The Sagrantino Colleallodole, the emblem of the company, is a particular wine, very structured, with great personality, which has established itself not only in the Italian market but also in Japan and America, receiving wide acclaim from the public and prestigious recognition from national and foreign critics.
