Paone Mimmo
Mimmo Paone is a winemaker from Eastern Sicily with extensive experience. Coming from a family of nurserymen and farmers, he graduated in oenology in 1975, immediately starting to vinify the grapes of other winegrowers on his own. In the early '90s, he purchased the first vineyards in the Torregrotta area, between the towns of Milazzo and Messina, inaugurating a brilliant family business that today exports Sicilian wines around the world. The success and expansion of the winery have not affected its spirit, which remains anchored to local traditions and a craft approach both in the vineyard and in the cellar.
The Mimmo Paone winery encompasses 70 hectares of vineyards, some owned and others rented, which, starting from the company's heart in Torregrotta, extend to the DOCs of Faro, Mamertino di Milazzo, and Malvasia delle Lipari. The vineyards are rooted in sunny and predominantly clayey soils, ranging from 150 to 400 meters in altitude, and feature almost exclusively the typical indigenous Sicilian varieties: Nerello, Nocera, Nero d'Avola, Grillo, Insolia, and Catarratto. The only exception is represented by Chardonnay, which has perfectly acclimatized in these territories, showcasing an intense and Mediterranean aromatic profile.
Mimmo Paone has remained tied to a concept of craftsmanship without shunning the use of the most modern technologies and experimentation. Curiosity, passion, and the desire to improve have always been the driving force behind his activity. At the beginning of his production adventure, he was among the first to experiment with new winemaking methods to enhance varietal and territorial aromas and reduce the use of sulfites. Alongside the historic labels, produced for over twenty years with excellent results, the range of wines offered opens each year to new experiments and new labels. The entire range is characterized by typicity, territoriality, aromatic clarity, and an excellent quality/price ratio, confirming itself as a reference point for wine from Eastern Sicily.
