Monchiero Carbone
Within the municipality of Canale, in the heart of the Roero area, the Piedmontese estate Monchiero Carbone faithfully interprets the designations of the area offering wines with a clean style that reflect the characteristics of the local grape varieties. The origins of the winery date back to 1987, when the winemaker Marco Monchiero, already a consultant for various wineries, decided to start a personal winemaking project merging the vineyards of his family with those of his wife Lucetta Carbone's family, both heirs of lineages of winemakers dating back to the early 20th century. Since 1995, Marco and Lucetta have been joined in managing the estate by their son Francesco Monchiero, with whom numerous expansion works of the vineyard area and modernization of the facilities have been undertaken over the years. The motto of the winery is “ogni üss a l’ha so tambüss”, a dialectal expression that literally means “every door has its knocker”, alluding to the fact that each label signed Monchiero Carbone presents its precise peculiarities.territorial.
The Monchiero Carbone estate extends over 35 hectares of vineyards, managed according to sustainable agronomic practices and reserved for the traditional varieties Nebbiolo, Arneis, Barbera, and Favorita, alongside a small percentage of the international grape Sauvignon Blanc. The plots are distributed throughout the Roero territory, where the soils are partly clay-limestone, partly sandy-marine, and partly clay-marine. In the winery, fermentations take place in stainless steel tanks while the subsequent maturation phase can occur either in steel or in oak barrels, depending on the label in question.
The wines of the Monchiero Carbone winery stand out for their strong Roero identity, whether it is Roero, Roero Arneis, or Barbera d’Alba. Among these, the Roero Arneis ‘Cecu d’la Biunda’ is worth mentioning, produced through a selection of Arneis grapes and dedicated to grandfather Francesco Carbone, a mild and gentle person nicknamed precisely “cecu d’la biunda.”
