Monte dei Ragni

The small winery Monte dei Ragni is born from the long winemaking tradition of the Ragno family, active for 5 generations, and from Zeno Zignoli's ability to turn a small artisanal wine production into an authentic gem of Valpolicella. Today, Monte dei Ragni has become a cult name for enthusiasts and for anyone seeking wines that are expressions of the territory, nature, and time without compromising on market logic and conventional practices.

Monte dei Ragni takes its name from the indication that appeared on a historical 19th-century land registry, which thus defines a small portion of land located on a ridge in the municipality of Fumane, in the heart of Valpolicella Classica. It consists of only 8 hectares of land, of which just over 2 are planted with vines. Zeno Zignoli cultivates them with determination and deep love for the territory avoiding any synthetic chemical intervention and preserving the biodiversity of the area: olive trees, cereals, fruit trees, and vegetables grow among the vines.“Even if I don't produce a bottle of wine, I will always have a living thanks to the animals, vegetables, and fruit trees scattered among the rows,” says Zeno, who uses a horse in his agricultural work and opposes the practice of weeding, which he considers deplorable, with “grass care,” which involves cover crops consisting of more than 36 different species.

The wines of the Monte dei Ragni winery are produced in very small quantities and exhibit a quality, territoriality, and expressiveness that leave one speechless. For Zeno, only the cultivation of the land and culture set a man free, and his wines are the fruit of a life philosophy that primarily aims to preserve the integrity, balance, and beauty of the territory: “You must earn the wine, and you cannot earn it if your business is out of balance.”
