Monte Duro

Embracing a truly artisanal production philosophy, the Emiliano estate Monte Duro becomes the protagonist of straightforward and genuine expressions that reflect the character of producers Devid and Matteo Sassi. We are in Vezzano sul Crostolo, in the province of Reggio Emilia, on the first hills of the Reggiano Apennines, where in 2010 Devid made his first official harvest and winemaking, starting his winemaking project. The winemaker began to nurture the idea of founding a winery already in the early 2000s, as an agricultural student driven by a love for nature and the vine in particular. Since 2021, Devid has been joined by his younger brother Matteo, with whom he shares a passion for artisanal wines. The estate is also part of VinNatur, an association that brings together over 180 wineries from 10 different countries united by the desire to produce wines using artisanal methods in respect of Nature and the consumer.

The approximately 20 hectares of the Monte Duro estate are dedicated to traditional grape varieties such as Lambrusco Maestri, Lambrusco Marani, Spergola, Malvasia,Trebbiano and Barbera, but also the international grapes Pinot Nero, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sauvignon Blanc. The vineyards are managed under certified organic practices with low yields, aimed at enhancing the quality of the grapes, and the harvest is carried out entirely by hand in boxes to preserve the integrity of the berries. In the winery, fermentations occur spontaneously thanks to the sole intervention of indigenous yeasts, and the Sassi brothers play with maceration times to enhance the quality of the grapes in relation to the winemaking goal. For sparkling wines, refermentation takes place in the bottle using exclusively refrigerated must as a source of sugars. Throughout the winemaking and aging process, the use of additives and enological aids, including sulfites, is excluded.

The labels of the Monte Duro winery are appreciated for their smooth and graceful drinkability, never heavy, as well as for their ancestral character. The sparkling wines represent one of the focal points of production, often bottled with a crown cap to further emphasize their carefree character.
