Monteleone

Monteleone is a young Sicilian production reality located on the northern slope of Etna. The protagonists of this project, born in 2017, are three: Giulia Monteleone, her father Enrico, and her partner Alessandro Benedetto, who is a winemaker by profession. The vineyards are located in what they love to define as the “locus amoenus” a few hundred meters from the ancient Cuba di Santa Domenica, a rural chapel situated in the countryside of Castiglione di Sicilia, not far from the Alcantara river. The lands are characterized by volcanic soils of different geological ages, naturally rich in minerals and with great permeability that allows for the efficient management of the large amount of rainfall that would otherwise affect the health of the vegetation.

The vineyards of the Monteleone winery are located in two main contrade: Cuba and Pontale Palino. The family has decided to vinify each parcel separately to enhance each terroir and thus represent the spirit of a single vineyard. The cultivated hectares in the contrada Cuba are two and are mainly trained on trellises with a small part on bush vines, dedicated to Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, and Alicante grapes. As for the contrada Pontale Palino, the cultivated hectares are almost three thousand meters of bush vines on their own roots, located about 700 meters above sea level.

The production of Monteleone is characterized by the enhancement of indigenous Sicilian grape varieties and the terroir. From reds to whites, the common denominator is certainly the territoriality and the desire to express in each label the different facets and nuances that Etna and Sicily are capable of transmitting to their wines. Therefore, it is a winery and a family in full evolution that over the years will emerge and become increasingly noticeable in the Sicilian and Italian wine scene thanks to a production of great quality!
