Oddero
The Oddero winery is a historic reality in the world of Barolo: its origins date back to the early 1800s. While much of the current configuration is due to the immense personality of Giacomo Oddero, today the winery is run by his daughter Mariacristina, along with her grandchildren Isabella and Pietro.
Mariacristina has not limited herself to preserving what she received, but has courageously undertaken some choices, such as the organic conversion in the vineyard that began in 2011, a sign of true passion and respect for a territory, that of the Langhe hills, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in June 2014. The vineyards of the Oddero winery are located among the most prestigious crus of the Barolo denomination, such as Rocche di Castiglione, Bussia, Villero, and Brunate. The vineyard area is about 35 hectares, of which almost half is cultivated with Nebbiolo for Barolo and Barbaresco. Chemical weeding is banned in the vineyard, and inter-row cover cropping is emphasized to develop the vines and prevent soil erosion. The soils are mostly made up of clay-limestone composition with varying proportions of sand.
At the Oddero winery, located in Santa Maria di La Morra, only indigenous yeasts are allowed, and for the aging of Barolo, large Austrian, Slavonian, and French oak barrels are predominantly used. The historic winery has been complemented since 2015 by a new beautiful winery with a low environmental impact. The result of this work is Barolo of great depth and character, distinguished by the character adherence based on the originating crus. Deep wines with irresistible nuances, the result of a passion passed down through seven generations.
