Onder De Boompjes
Onder De Boompjes is the second oldest distillery in the Netherlands, founded almost 400 years ago in a town on the outskirts of Rotterdam destined to become the Dutch capital of gin: Schiedam. Over the centuries, the boutique has contributed not only to preserving but especially to bringing to life the authentic tradition of Dutch gin. Its history has run parallel to that of the territory that hosts it, which, starting from 1700, experienced a significant boost in the production of spirits and liqueurs, reaching 1883 with as many as 400 distilleries operating with over 20 windmills. Today, Onder De Boompjes is one of the two remaining production houses in the city, faithful to the tradition it has created and to a production philosophy strongly oriented towards quality.
The production of Onder De Boompjes is the pride of the distillery: unlike other houses in the region, here every element of the spirits is produced in-house and personally cared for by master distiller John De Lange, ensuring full control over the resultfinal result, from maceration to aging. This care translates into the selection of the perfect balance of botanicals, spices, flowers, and citrus, in the careful preparation of each ingredient and in manual bottling. The gins from the boutique, moreover, do not leave Schiedam before being checked at least 6 times.
The creation of the Onder De Boompjes bottles is based on passion and total dedication to gin, for a production that reflects “the love for honest ingredients and the constant search for craftsmanship and authenticity.” Respect for the ancient heritage does not prevent giving new forms to their centuries-old experience, enriching it with new experiments and limited editions. The selection is thus enriched with unexpectedly spicy notes or the delicate tones of fennel buds.
