Orsolani

The Orsolani winery is located in San Giorgio, a small village situated in Canavese, in the upper Piemonte. The winery was founded in 1894 by Giovanni Orsolani and his wife Domenica, who returned to Italy from the United States, where they had emigrated.
The grape variety cultivated by Giovanni Orsolani was Erbaluce, from which he produced the wine of the same name; following the success he achieved, Giovanni increased the number of vineyards and modernized the winery. The vineyards today are located on the morainic hill of Caluso, particularly suited for vine cultivation thanks to both the mineral-rich soil from the glacial period and the very mild climate. Four generations have succeeded each other at the helm of the winery, which is now managed by Francesco and his son Gian Luigi, who with great passion and expertise, continue the work of their ancestors.
Erbaluce was in 1967, among the first Italian wines, to obtain the DOC. The winery has an absolutely family-run and artisanal character: the grapes are harvested at the end of September, in the winery they are destemmed and subjected to cryomaceration, then to soft pressing and fermentation in steel at controlled temperature.controlled. The wine, bottled in March, rests in the bottle for two months and can preserve its organoleptic characteristics intact for three or four years. The wines of Cantina Orsolani have received many recognitions and awards over the years, but perhaps the most thrilling satisfactions have been those of being chosen for the table of Pope John Paul II on the occasion of the youth festival in 2002 and for the official lunch for the President of the United States in Rome in 2007.
