Oxer Wines

Oxer Wines is a young Spanish reality that produces wines in the famous region of Rioja Alavesa, in the northeast of the country. Oxer has always dreamed of producing wines in this land and in 2005 identified the area of Laguardia as particularly suitable for his project. In 2009 he made his first wine, vinifying grapes from old vines purchased from some local producers. The good result convinced him that this was the right area to create his estate. Rioja Alavesa is a subzone of Rioja, the most famous wine region in Spain, characterized by the presence of gentle hills made up of precious red soils of clay-limestone origin, very suitable for vine cultivation. The area enjoys a mild and temperate climate and is protected from the cold northern winds by the Sierra de Toloño.

In Rioja Alavesa, red grape varieties are mainly cultivated. The most present grape variety is Tempranillo, a true icon of the territory, followed by Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano, but there are also vineyards of white grape varieties: Viura, Garnacha Blanca, Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng,Hondarribi Zuri Zerratia, Hondarribi Zuri Zerratia, Izkiriota Txikia, Calagraño, Maturana Blanca and Malvasia Riojana. In this wonderful land of ancient traditions, Oxer decided to create an estate that could express the authentic spirit of the place and its history. He set out in search of small plots of old vineyards, often centuries-old, composed of ancient clones, rich in biodiversity, with roots that delve deep into the soil. These are vines that produce few clusters per plant, but guarantee superior quality grapes.

To maintain the centuries-old interaction between vineyard and terroir, Oxer decided to cultivate his estate following the principles of organic farming. Work in the fields is carried out with the help of a mule, so as not to compact the soil with heavy machinery and to promote its vitality. In the winery, processing is kept to the bare minimum, allowing the grapes to express themselves spontaneously and naturally, without too much intervention. The aging takes place in concrete tanks, clay containers, and barrels of 400-600 liters. Oxer's wines are a true reflection of the territory and its historic grape varieties. True excellence for connoisseurs.
