Pascal Franck
Franck Pascal is a winemaker and Champagne producer who is extremely faithful to the principles of biodynamics. An engineer by training, Franck took over a small family farm after the death of his brother, gradually converting it to biodynamic cultivation, until receiving certification in 2004. The total rejection of pesticides, herbicides, and other artificial chemical products stemmed from his experience in military service and the application of toxic substances and gases as weapons. From that experience, a complete rejection of pesticides and toxic substances developed, along with an interest in biodynamics, which Franck defines as "a biological culture enhanced by the application of energetic solutions." Today Franck is joined by his wife Isabelle and several collaborators, in a work environment that aims for cordiality among employees and closeness to consumers.
The cultivation of the vines is conducted using experimental methods that, year after year, seek to adapt as best as possible to the needs and involve the use of essential oils and chamomile infusions to nourish the plants. To those who accuse him of esotericism and agronomic heterodoxy, Franck responds from his constantly updated blog: "we take responsibility for our choices and choose to record the results on the blog. The possibilities of these techniques exceed our imagination."
The names given to the Champagnes evoke the principles of naturalness, genuineness, balance that Franck is inspired by. The labels always provide information about the grape varieties, dosage, and disgorgement date. These are elegant and refined Champagnes, with fresh and evocative aromas, restrained intensity, and impeccable balance. Sometimes seductive and mysterious, sometimes fruity and mineral, other times light but persistent, the flavors that a Franck Pascal Champagne releases are unique and never banal, the result of highly experimental production techniques, all to be tried and discovered.
