Perticaia

The Perticaia winery, located in the Umbrian locality of Montefalco, near Perugia, has been under the ownership of the Becca family since 2018. The name Perticaia comes from an ancient Umbrian word meaning plow, symbolizing the transition from pastoralism to agriculture and indicating the deep connection of the winery with the countryside. Today, the estate is led by Flavio Becca, originally from Valtopina, who decided to purchase Castello di Gallano to start a new production focused on quality and tradition.

Respectful of the teachings of the past, Perticaia now boasts about fifteen hectares of vineyard, of which more than ten are dedicated to Sagrantino, in addition to one and a half hectares of olive grove: "Vigna delle Querce" is bordered by centuries-old trees preserved after the transformation of the land, which was once used for crops; "Vigna Attone" runs alongside the stream of the same name, and "Vigna Montioni" is named after the family of the former owners. The lands are all hilly and slightly sloped, at an altitude between 320 and 350 m above sea level, mainly facing south and southwest.

The Becca family, supported by winemaker Emiliano Falsini, oversees and coordinates all phases of wine production: from the harvest, which is done manually, to the winemaking process, which is carried out in a completely natural way, without any use of selected yeasts, using only the indigenous yeasts naturally present on the grape skins. The goal is to produce excellent wines using and enhancing exclusively grapes that come from local vineyards and that fully reflect the characteristics and personality of the Umbrian territory. Wines of great character and expressiveness, which recall the ancient Umbrian tradition and represent a certainty of the territory.
