Petrussa

The Petrussa winery is a beautiful family reality in the Colli Orientali del Friuli. Founded in 1986, it can count on the experience of more generations dedicated to viticulture in these splendid lands. The estate is located in the Prepotto area, which from cadastral documents was already cultivated at the beginning of the 1900s. Faithful to ancient traditions, Petrussa has decided to focus on enhancing the typical grape varieties of the territory and particularly the red grape Schioppettino, which was already recommended in 1921 by the Friulian anti-phylloxera consortium for replanting vineyards after the destruction that had overwhelmed all of Europe. A local excellence, which thanks to a perfect adaptation to the particular pedoclimatic conditions of the region, is able to express itself very well, producing wines of great elegance.

The Colli Orientali area boasts ancient origins in the field of viticulture. The vine has dwelled in this area since Roman times, when the port of Aquileia was one of the most important stops on the Adriatic Sea for the wine trade. The mountain ranges of the Prealpi Giulie protect the vineyards from cold air currents and disturbances coming from the northeast, while the southern exposure allows the gentle sea breezes to rise inland, mitigating temperatures. The beautiful hilly exposures, sunny and ventilated, allow for the harvest of ripe and rich grapes. But the true peculiarity of the area lies in the subsoil. The soils are composed of sedimentations of limestone marls and sandstone that formed in a marine environment. This is the famous Flysch, or ponca in Friulian, a soil of friable rocks very rich in mineral elements, which forces the vines to go very deep with their roots to seek water and precious nutrients.

The Petrussa estate extends over a total area of 10 hectares, divided into several vineyards located in historically very suitable areas of the Prepotto territory. The vines have an average age of about 20 years and are managed with extreme care and attention, aiming for low yields to achieve good aromatic concentration. Respecting
