Pian dell'Orino

Pian dell'Orino is one of the names of excellence of Brunello di Montalcino: a small winery that has achieved record ratings in recent years both in Italy and abroad. It was founded in 1997 by the Alto Adige native Caroline Pobitzer together with her German husband Jan Herback, winemaker and viticulturist with long experience, united by a common passion for the terroir of Montalcino and for great wines.

The Pian dell'Orino winery is located in the eponymous locality of the municipality of Montalcino, next to the Greppo estate of the Biondi Santi family. The property is divided into 4 vineyards covering a total area of 6 hectares, cultivated by Jan with great competence, attention to every detail, and in respect of biodynamics. The agronomic approach pursues maximum quality and the work in the winery is carried out in a natural and non-invasive manner, enhancing the work done in the vineyard: "the winery matters little or a lot depending on what grapes you bring inside," says Jan. If all synthetic chemical products are banned in the vineyard in favor of biodynamic preparations, manures, and cover crops, in the winery the fermentationstake place in steel or in truncated-conical wooden tanks, without temperature control and with long maceration. In continuity with the best traditional practices, only indigenous yeasts are used and the aging involves the use of large barrels.

The wines of Pian dell'Orino represent high and dizzying expressions of Montalcino: from the intense and juicy red to the Brunello of great depth, with a classic and austere character, fruity and expressive. These are wines of great complexity and elegance, produced with much wisdom following traditional and genuine methods: the result of vineyards cared for in every detail.
